WKNDHRS was tasked with creating an epic storyline of visuals and audio for DJ Marc Kinchen’s (MK) performance at Coachella on the iconic Sahara stage. The vision was to craft a story that represented the journey from life to death and the transcendence beyond, brought to life through cutting-edge 3D visuals.

One of the biggest challenges was building an hour and a half of 3D content while optimizing for 8K screen resolution. We had to balance creative ambition with technical constraints, ensuring asset optimization without compromising the extreme visual output needed for the scale of the performance.

We began by developing the key hero scenes, each 45 seconds to 1 minute in length, and then built out a 3D pipeline that allowed us to seamlessly integrate recycled content as filler, so the audience would never notice. This strategy enabled us to reduce costs and stay within MK’s budget while optimizing the 3D pipeline. We also used off-the-shelf assets and implemented AI compression techniques to ensure that the 3D scenes were fully optimized without sacrificing quality. AI played a crucial role in making the heavier 3D scenes manageable for the event's technical setup.

The result was one of the most captivating visual performances of the weekend. The stunning visuals were so successful that MK continued to use them for his worldwide tours, including performances in key hotspots like Ibiza.
